Child's Health Primer, 1885 - Alcohol and Narcotics
Pathfinder No. 1 Child's Health Primer, 1885, by A.S. Barnes & Co.
The preface states that in Massachusetts, pupils were to be taught about the effects of alcohol and narcotics on the body. The series was written under the supervision of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union.
It's an interesting little book, which asks questions such as "ought a boy use tobacco?" and warns against giving opiate "soothing syrups" to children, complete with a macabre little illustration. The graphics in this book are quite cool!
127 pages. Pages are clean but there is significant wear to the covers as shown.
